This morning we had a premier session with Charlotte and Emily on campus. We went through a number of different elements of premier to take our films to the next level.

Audio

Types of audio

  • Music

  • Voice Over

  • Ambient

  • Silent - first films were silent

Questions to ask yourself when considering audio:

  • If audio, what type?

  • Combination?

  • What music genre?

  • Who is speaking?

  • What is their tone of voice?

  • What sounds are important to the story?

Adding audio

Audio can be added through the audio panel on premier where we can access royalty free music. If you keep timeline sync checked, it will play video as you listen to audio which helps you to see if it matches your video before adding it to the timeline.

After placing the audio in, listen and press (M) to add markers. This is will aid you with cuts and, with snapping on, will allow you to get them on beat.

Lumetri Colour Panel

This panel helps to adjust the colour of the clips You can copy and paste so it can be applied to all clips in a video, keeping consistency.

Lumetri Colour > Creative = 'Looks' which are presets that can be applied to clips. You can adjust intensity before applying.

Subtitles

Subtitles = hearing viewers that do not understand the language

Closed Captions = show the spoken content and sound effects or other audio elements

Choosing to add these makes your film more inclusive.

2 System Sound Syncing

'When you have external dialogue, it is important to make sure this is as crisp as possible. This is when 2 system sound becomes vital'

Add all sound into timeline, right click and select synchronise. Make sure audio is selected as the synchronised point. Premier will recognise the peaks and valleys and get them to sync.

Split Screen

Allows multiple clips to be shown at same time by dividing space.

Stack the clips you would like to be shown at the same time on top of each other, make sure they're the same length.

Crop the clips (video effects > transform > crop + drag onto each clip).

This session was very helpful to establish further skills for Premier. I definitely want to use subtitles and colour changing in future videos and projects.
